Shoppers switch to value lines

Recent research shows that consumers are now making dramatic changes to the way they shop for jewellery and clothing.

The survey showed that in the last 12 months 41 per cent of shoppers have switched to cheaper brands and three in ten have cut down on the premium ranges.
“It is clear that shoppers are now really feeling the pinch and beginning to trade down when out buying food, fashion, and electrical goods”. During the recent years of unprecedented prosperity in Britain, we saw a very noticeable shift towards premium, upmarket products, with shoppers buying more luxurious jewellery, and clothing. But in the space of just a few months, this trend has already started to be reversed.

Other trends revealed were that 66 per cent cent of shoppers were now searching for promotions and deals than a year ago, and 29 per cent now spend more time comparing prices in the supermarket.
